The incident occurred in Albany around 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the 500 block of Central Avenue.
According to Albany Police, officers responded to reports of a man being attacked by several dogs. Upon arrival, they found the dogs fatally attacking the man, and in an attempt to stop the attack, one of the responding officers discharged his duty weapon, striking at least one dog.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The department said the victim's name would not be released until proper notifications were made.
All dogs have been accounted for, and Albany Police said they are placing them in an appropriate homing facility.
Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.
